I’ve been working with Coach Mike for over 10 years, He taught me everything I know about golf. Not only has he been a great Coach but also a mentor to me over the years. I’ve taken golf lessons from Mike Berning for over ten years. As a golfer for 50 years and visual learner, Mike used a combination of personal demonstrations, videos of myself and professionals and teaching aids to transform my outdated swing of the 1970’s to the modern golf swing of today. Mike was very clear that progress, combined with practice, would be slow as I had to retrain my brain to a more efficient swing. Mike taught me to breakdown my swing into segments to better learn the nuances and feel where I needed to be at any stage of the swing. As Mike promised, I’m seeing the results of his guidance and patients. I feel Mike is a great teaching professional and greatly appreciate his time and effort to make golf fun for me again.

In August 2017 my son and I were introduced to Mike Berning and we took a lesson with him. We had an immediate connection and were so impressed that we joined Marietta Country Club where he was the director of golf instruction. For the next 5 1/2 years we took 2 hours of lessons every week together and learned a lot about golf but also became friends with Mike. When we started with Mike we considered how good a round was based on how many balls we lost. Now I am consistently in the low to mid 80s and have broken 80 three times. My son went on to play Varsity golf in high school and usually shoots in the 70’s. His personal best round was a 69. We owe Mike for improving our golf game. But, more importantly for helping a father and teenage son bond over golf and learn to love the game together. We miss Mike greatly at MCC but are sure a new crop of students will feel as lucky as we did.
